In future, the industry will shape more around close strategic alliances – the ‘outsourced CIO’ model. As a buyer of investments, you will look for partners that don’t just help you navigate around individual products, but have a wider understanding of your portfolio.
To achieve this shift the asset management industry will have to ensure that those on the front line have a broad perspective. You can have people talking about UK large cap growth stocks, but they will have to be able to relate this to, say, the price of oil, bond rates around the world, and inflation in India and China. This means securing smart talent across the board – from institutional business to private investments to alternatives funds.
